چکیده

The eyes of Rhesus monkeys were exposed to an argon laser operating at 5,145 A. Retinal exposure sites were examined with ophthalmoscopic and histopathologic techniques. The retinal damage threshold was determined ophthalmoscopically for exposure durations of 12, 70, 125, and 1,000 msec. The utilization of flat preparations of the pigment epithelium and sensory layers of the retina proved to be a more sensitive method for evaluating threshold retinal damage.

A comparison of laser-induced retinal damage from infrared wavelengths to that from visible wavelengths

Corneal, lenticular, and retinal damage have been observed following exposures to a laser emitting in the near-infrared wavelength range (Nd:Y AG, 1.318 ~m). Ocular damage thresholds are much higher than for visible wavelengths. However, it was found that infrared (IR) exposures may result in multiple damage sites throughout the ocular medium and retina; that exposure sites which initially appe...

Hematoporphyrin Derivative Photoradiat ion Therapy for the Treatment of Intraocular Tumors: Examination of Acute Normal Ocular Tissue Toxicity I

Preclinical studies designed to define potential side effects resulting from the use of hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) photoradiation therapy (PRT) as a modality for treating intraocular tumors have been performed. Pigmented rabbits were used to evaluate acute normal ocular tissue toxicity following single HPD PRT treatments in which the light was directed through the pupil and onto a 1-sq cm...

Wavelength dependence of ocular damage thresholds in the near-ir to far-ir transition region: proposed revisions to MPES.

This report summarizes the results of a series of infrared (IR) laser-induced ocular damage studies conducted over the past decade. The studies examined retinal, lens, and corneal effects of laser exposures in the near-IR to far-IR transition region (wavelengths from 1.3-1.4 mum with exposure durations ranging from Q-switched to continuous wave). The corneal and retinal damage thresholds are ta...

Threshold determinations for selective retinal pigment epithelium damage with repetitive pulsed microsecond laser systems in rabbits.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE In both clinical and animal studies, it has been shown that repetitive short laser pulses can cause selective retinal pigment epithelium damage (RPE) with sparing of photoreceptors. Our purpose was to determine the ophthalmoscopic and angiographic damage thresholds as a function of pulse durations by using different pulsed laser systems to optimize treatment modalities....

Compliance of Radiation Dose and Image Quality in a Nigerian Teaching Hospital with the European Guidelines for Pediatric Screen-Film Chest Radiography

Introduction Blue light is a part of the spectrum with the highest energy content, which can reach the retina. The damage that it can cause to the retina is called photochemical or blue-light retinal injury. For the retinal injury assessment of the photochemical and aphakic retinal hazards in the wavelength range of 300-700 nm, use of effective spectral radiance limits (W.m-2.sr-1) seems to be...
